Mistletoe and Cancer

Mistletoe has been used for decades for cancer treatment. In Europe most Medical Doctors integrate the use of Mistletoe during Chemotherapy and Radiation. It is known to reduce adverse side effect - such as anemia, neutropenia, thrombocytopenia, hepatic toxicity, nausea, and vomiting - and also offer palliative support, improve quality of life, treat pain, reduce ascites, and increase survival. Mistletoe has the following mechanisms of actions and indications:

  • Mistletoe lectins are directly cytotoxic to the cancer cell membranes

  • Anti-angiogenic by lowering VEGF

  • Stabilizes/repairs DNA

  • Inhibits cancer spread

  • Increases appetite and energy

  • Decreases pain, nausea, and vomiting side effects of chemo and radiation

  • Anti-inflammatory

  • Immunomodulates (stimulates macrophages, T cells, NK cells, dendritic cells, cytokines, etc.)

  • Acts as a fever-inducing therapy similar to that of Coley's toxin

  • Enhances overall quality of life

  • Can be administered subcutaneously, intravenously, directly into the tumor, and into abdominal ascities and pleural effusion

At Bluestone Natural Medicine we offer it as a subcutaneous injection or in the intravenous form.

Mistletoe has been shown to be very safe in high intravenous doses; administered to even children with advanced cancers.
